Summary: A Tree Climber is a skilled professional responsible for climbing, pruning, and maintaining trees to ensure their health and safety. This physically demanding and specialized role requires individuals with a deep understanding of arboriculture, tree biology, and safe climbing techniques. Tree Climbers play a crucial role in preserving and enhancing the beauty and health of trees in various settings, such as residential areas, parks, commercial properties, and along roadways.

Reports to: F.O.M


1. Tree Climbing: Safely ascend and descend trees using specialized climbing equipment, including ropes, harnesses, and climbing spikes.

2. Oversees quality control on trees, including ensuring proper pruning cuts, proper safety standards, and proper training is taking place.

3. Responsible for meeting daily route/project requirements of Green Summit Contracts and other work that is sold.

4. Compliance: Ensure compliance with local regulations, permits, and safety standards related to tree care and removal.

5. Responsible for safe operation of all equipment required to complete the work on any given workday.

6. Hazard Assessment: Identify and assess potential tree hazards, such as weak limbs, structural issues, or insect infestations, and take appropriate action to mitigate risks.

7. Pruning and Trimming: Execute precise pruning and trimming techniques to remove dead or diseased branches, improve tree structure, and promote healthy growth.

8. Knowledge of Trees: Possess a thorough understanding of tree species, their growth habits, and the specific requirements for their care.

4. Experience: Typically, candidates for this role have several years of experience in tree climbing and arboriculture.

12. Climbing Skills: Proficient in climbing techniques and the use of climbing equipment.

13. Knowledge: Strong knowledge of tree biology, pruning techniques, ropes and knots, and safety procedures.


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge and skills required. Operational Skills: Operate most small engine equipment used on a daily basis, including but not limited to Chain Saw, Stump grinder, Brush chipper, and Skid Steer. Ability to drive a ¾ ton truck, or bigger, with a 18’ trailer hauling equipment. Must have a valid drivers license with a clean driving record.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 150 pounds. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. Most importantly, this employee must have tree climbing skills and know how to safely and efficiently climb trees to prune them. Must be able to work in extreme environments in temperatures up to 100 degrees and below 32 degrees.

Work Environment:

It is a professional environment working in the field alongside crews, as well as in a professional office setting. Often you will be working alone and therefore required to be self-motivated and self-starting to accomplish the job duties and responsibilities.
