Job Description

  • Network and sources all available sources of hardwood logs/timber to achieve procurement goals
  • Cruise and appraise logs/standing timber for quantity, quality, and value through on-site visit
  • Analyze and calculate cost of goods (raw material costs, operational cost, and overall cost control), and project profits to meet defined pricing levels
  • Negotiate timber/logs sales aggressively while building strong relationships with landowners, log suppliers, loggers, forestry consultants, truckers and mill personnel.
  • Procure hardwood timber/logs in compliance with Canadian and US related regulations
  • Inspect, scale, grade, and sort log with the use of an electric handheld when needed
  • Monitor supplier performance versus targets, costs and quality; implement corrective action as needed
  • Coordinate logs transportation, and delivery, and loading into containers
  • Develops, cultivates and maintains long-term relationships with wood industry suppliers, and regulatory officials to ensure adequate logs supply, and mitigate supply interruptions created by seasonal weather challenges
  • Provide market information, technical information to sales team from product sourcing to delivery
  • Review and process claims against suppliers when required


  • Sales experience is required, flooring, furniture or other wood industry is a asset
  • Strong negotiating skills (i.e. analytical, quick-thinking, and innovative)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work effectively in a highly interactive team environment
  • Significant experience and training in log procurement and scaling is an asset
  • Willing to travel to USA, and work with a flexible schedule in an outdoor environment
  • Must have a valid class G driver license, and US VISA
  • Self-starter, detail and results oriented, with strong mathematical skills.
  • Computer skills required include knowledge of Outlook, Word & Excel
