Overview
The forestry tech will work on invasive species and timber stand improvement projects throughout west central Illinois. The primary duty will be cutting under story trees in the forest, commonly called timber stand improvement, and treating invasive species using a variety of methods. Tree planting, prescribed burning, fireline creation, and right of way maintenance are also common services provided by Long Forestry.
Chainsaw experience is highly favorable and tree felling experience will be favored. Previous TSI experience will be favored as well.
A herbicide license is required, you must be able to pass the herbicide applicators test. You must take this test on your own accord, however Long Forestry will pay the 3 year license fee.
You must love working and being outside to be successful in this field. If you enjoy being outdoors then this could be the best job you’ve ever had. We work outdoors 365 days per year, often on uneven terrain or in river bottoms. Exposure to poison ivy and wildlife is common. Must be able to carry 40 pounds, walk a lot ,and navigate uneven terrain.
Physical fitness is key to this position. If you can not move and walk for an entire work shift then this job probably won’t be a fit for you. Please, only serious applicants apply.
