Description of position:

We are seeking an experienced Ponsse Scorpion Harvester Operator to lead and operate in a high-demand stump-to-dump commercial thinning operation on steep ground under all weather conditions. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in machine operation, diagnostics, mechanical and electrical repairs, and have proven leadership skills managing a 6-person logging crew.

Job Title: Ponsse Scorpion Harvester / Logging Crew Supervisor (NOC83110)

Wage: $60/hour (blended rate)

Schedule: 12 hour shifts (rotating day and night shift) plus 1 hour daily travel time

Camp: Camp accommodations provided at no charge (meals not included)

Drug Testing: Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing required

Driver’s License: Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean abstract (no impaired driving charges in the past 3 years)

Offered benefits: Company RRSP program after 1 year’s employment; Company HSA benefits after 1 year’s employment

Terms of Employment: Full-time, permanent (50-70 hours per week)

Job Duties:

Operate Ponsse Scorpion harvester in steep terrain and in all weather conditions with precision and efficiency
Perform diagnostics and repairs on Scorpion harvesters, with intimate knowledge of electrical systems
Operate Ponsse forwarder with minimum one year experience during winter operations and in steep terrain
Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical issues on both harvester and forwarder
Supervise and coordinate a 6-person crew in a stump-to-dump operation
Layout commercial thinning plans in multi-aged stands and grade logs to meet 100% utilization standards
Use Avenza Maps confidently for navigation and planning
Manage and organize six critical sorts for log products
Load trucks with forwarder as required
Adapt to rotating day and night shifts as part of a 24/7 operation

 

Employment Requirements/work experience:

Minimum 5 years’ experience operating Ponsse Scorpion in winter conditions and on steep ground
Minimum 1 year’s experience operating a Ponsse forwarder in similar conditions
Documented experience supervising logging crews and harvest planning
Extensive knowledge of log grades and utilization standards
Highly skilled in machine diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs (mechanical and electrical)
Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking)
Strong communication and leadership skills
Proficient in Avenza Map use for operational layout and navigation
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (must have clean abstract with no impaired driving in past 3 years)
Must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol test
Ability to work and live in remote camp settings (meals are self-provided and prepared by employee)
Minimum Level 1 first aid
WHIMS certificate
