This position is located at the Tree Seed Centre in Surrey. This position has full time on-site requirements.

Cone and Seed Processing Supervisor 

$69,760.70 – $79,322.69 annually

The Ministry of Forests delivers holistic resource management services for British Columbians and manages specified Crown land and resources in a manner that embraces the economic, environmental and social goals of government. The Forest Improvement and Research Management Branch’s mission is to protect, manage, and conserve British Columbia’s forest genetic resources.

As the Cone and Seed Processing Supervisor, you are responsible for planning, conducting, assessing, documenting and reporting cone and seed processing activities. This role involves supervising technicians and coordinating and adapting to a wide variety of concurrent cone and seed production processes/treatments/environments with the goal of producing high quality seed.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • University degree or diploma in a related field such as forestry, natural resources, agriculture, botany or related sciences plus a minimum of three (3) years of related job experience; or,
  • Post-secondary education/training plus a minimum of five (5) years of related job experience; or,
  • Seven (7) or more years of direct, relevant experience working with tree seed.
  • Related job experience includes (but is not restricted to) the following: working with tree seed and working with live botanical products.
  • Must possess and maintain (or be immediately able to obtain) a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence (or equivalent) to meet the transportation requirements of the position.

Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:

  • Two (2) or more years of demonstrated supervisory responsibilities.
  • Experience working with cone and seed processing equipment and process operations or demonstrated experience working in a high volume production environment with simultaneous technical activities involving a living botanical product.
  • Experience with the Seed Planning and Registry System, Cone and Seed Processing System and current technology including environmental control software.
  • Experience interpreting Collective Agreements.
  • Experience supervising within a unionized environment.
